in another world
in another world, you fly on a magic carpet all around your village; you, wake up from a deep slumber when palestine is liberated and you forget what life was like in occupation. in another world, hospitals were only for checkups and flu shots rather than, all the large band aids and loud noises and painful injuries they gave you. in another world, genocide is history, a word too profound for your vocabulary. you watch horror movies with gore for fun and they’re nothing like real life. in another world you’re, flying kites in a courtyard and telling your parents it’ll be okay. you’re excited to meet them in the heavens where you’re planting olive trees as you idly wait, for mom and dad to join you when God deems it time. in another world you fly on your magic carpet above the walls, in another world, the balloons are your safety nets and they fly you away from all the danger. and in every world, your laugh is contagious, your smile isn’t only resistance. and in both lives, you remain an angel, even in death.
